Grass-fed herd

Herbivores in nature exhibit three characteristics: mobbing for predator protection, movement daily onto fresh forage and away from yesterday’s droppings, and a diet consisting of forage only – no dead animals, no chicken manure, no grain, and no fermented forage; our goal is to approximate this template as closely as possible. Our cows eat forage from a new pasture paddock every few days, and occasionally receive pellet treats consisting of ground up grass and molasses. This natural model heals the land, thickens the forage, reduces weeds, stimulates earthworms, reduces pathogens, and increases nutritional qualities in the meat.

Our pigs are ranged in the wooded areas of our farm. They have open air freedom where they are able to express their "PIGNESS". They root for acorns, roots, and bugs. They are also offered a free choice of regular feed and a medal of fruits and vegetables from other local farms and markets.

Organic Poultry

At Johnston's Farm, we attempt to emulate an ecological habitat that occurs naturally in the wild; chickens in nature are the world's "biological cleansers", meaning they move from pasture to pasture, following herbivores and cleaning the grass of impurities.  This not only grows healthy chickens who produce hearty meat and eggs, but also helps the environment by keeping the grass healthy and clean.

Please note we are not producing poultry at this time but hope to again in the future

Check this video out! As you can see, we've been doing this the wrong way for a long time
